Wellbeing in Education NZ Conference

WENZ 2020 conferences postponed

It is with regret that we are postponing WENZ 2020 for Christchurch and Auckland as part of the national response to reduce the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

This decision has not been made lightly, given the incredible amount of work that has gone into the organisation of what were shaping up to be outstanding and popular conferences.  However, we find ourselves in challenging times and an unprecedented situation. We are keenly aware of our collective responsibility to all of our communities. Each of you will go home, not only to your whanau, but to your schools where you are in contact with large numbers of akonga and, through them, a significant proportion of your local community.

"We couldn't responsibly ask educators to take this risk for themselves or their communities at a time when they are needed to support our young people", explained Dr Denise Quinlan, co-convenor of WENZ. "Our decision aligns with Government advice against holding large gatherings."

We have made this decision as early as possible to maximise the opportunity for delegates to alter any travel and accommodation arrangements. Over the coming days our team will be exploring all possible options for rescheduling both WENZ 2020 conferences (Christchurch and Auckland) for later this year.  We will provide you with an update within the next two weeks.

In the meantime, your existing registrations will be carried over to the rescheduled event.

We'd like to acknowledge your commitment to WENZ and wellbeing in your school by registering for this event. We look forward to the rescheduled WENZ conferences providing a fantastic opportunity for us all to come together, share learning, and strengthen wellbeing in your schools.

We will post updated information on this site as soon as we can.

Nau mai, haere mai,
Kaiako and Kaiawhina are at the heart of wellbeing change in our kura.
We need to look after our own wellbeing to care for and teach our tamariki and rangatahi.

Welcome to Wellbeing in Education, He ākonga aumangea, he ākonga tū maia New Zealand's largest wellbeing conference. The support of educators from all over New Zealand made the PENZ conferences hugely successful over the past three years. As PENZ Convenors, we acknowledge the support of our Performance Wellbeing colleagues in previous years and are proud to now take this concept forward with a new identity and two new venues!

We are massively excited to be bringing Wellbeing in Education New Zealand, he ākonga aumangea, he ākonga tū maia to the North Island for the first time in 2020. Previous years' participants were emphatic, 'we need this conference in the North Island'. Well, you asked, we listened, and this year it's finally happening. We are proud to be sharing another world-class line up of fantastic speakers at Auckland's Grand Millennium Hotel on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th April. We chose the Grand Millennium because it's central, you've always told us how much you appreciate beautiful surroundings and the parking's cheap for the big city!

The South Island conference is staying in 'Christchurch the Resilient City',  and 2020 sees us moving to the newly renovated Christchurch Town Hall - a perfect venue for us. We hope you will be as  proud as we are to experience this beautiful expression of Christchurch's renewal. While the conference retains our two-day format (Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd April), delegates also get the unique opportunity to spend more time with our visiting international speakers in workshops on Saturday 4th April.

Both conferences share the outstanding line up of international and homegrown experts that make our conferences so popular. Each location will reflect the different focus of local contributing educators. We have selected truly engaging speakers with wellbeing wisdom to share. Always lively, always evidence-based, and always practical, each session at WENZ is designed to enable you to take what you learn into your classrooms and schools the very next week.

Take a look at the programmes and choose the one that best fits your staff or school.

The coffee machines will be ready and we can't wait to see you!

Lucy, Denise and the rest of the WENZ team.

The organising committee wishes to acknowledge and thank Ngāi Tahu & Ngāi Tūāhuriri  for their contribution to WENZ.
